New Page - Fun In The Mud

I added a new page for the Cowboy Magic field study yesterday.  I took starting pictures of Bonnie's hooves, I should have gotten pictures of Rosie's.  Maybe tomorrow.

It's been raining since Saturday evening.  Our ground is already saturated, creeks and rivers are high, there is no place for this water to go.  It is standing everywhere.  I wish I could push it back to those who need it.

I've been free lunging Bonnie about 15 minutes a day.  I don't have a round pen so sometimes it's a bit of a challenge but for the most part I can move her around with minimal effort.  I leave one jump of cross rails up and if she chooses to take it, I let her but don't force her to take it. She normally takes it at least once, jumping the cross rails huge, makes me laugh.  She's finally content to just trot without dramatic bursts of galloping bucking farts!  I may attempt to ride her this week =)

Tried to free lunge Rosie - very glad no one was around to watch that, pretty sure it was comical!  Never tried with her before, she did quite a bit of end to end galloping before I got her to focus and I was able to move her up and down a fence line a small amount.  I had to exert a lot of effort, often running to get ahead of her with dramatic body action to move her.  I'm not sure I got anything accomplished with that other than she exerted some energy.   I finished by putting her on a lunge line and walk/trot/halt on voice command - she's rusty, but I eventually got it.  Will be doing more of that.

Got to use the new coolers this evening too, but needed one for myself.  I was soaked through my Ariats up to the knees of my jeans.

Had a blast running in the rain, splashing through the puddles and flinging mud with my mares!

  1. Living in the high desert, mud is not something we have to deal with - thankfully. When we do get rain and they roll in the wet sand it falls right off when it dries. Makes life a little easier.

  4. I guess you could call me a fair-weather rider. Splashing around just doesn't do anything for me. Could be because Jaz is a lot of things, but sure-footed is NOT one of them.

  6. You sound like you had fun playing in the puddles and mud. It's good to act like a kid sometimes. Too bad you didn't get video of the lunging...it would have been fun to watch.
