Looking Back and Forward

I re-read my January 1, 2011 post and snagged my goals out of it.

By January 1, 2012 I want to be living in the country, with my horses on my property.

Smaller goals I have:
1. Ride my own horse in a Dressage test (most likely Rosie)
2. Show Bonnie in Western Pleasure (means teaching her to "jog and lope")
3. Handle one of my dogs in another dog show (already in the works for April in Tulsa, OK)
4. Go on family trip this summer and have fun

My number one "Resolution" is to just live my life to the ultimate fullness I can.

Looking at these I can say I did them all - and so much more.   It's not been an easy year, but it's not been as hard as some of my friends.

In July Rosie and I competed in her first Dressage show.  She exceeded my expectations and we placed in every single class.  Even the first blue ribbon ever.

I have rated Bonnie down and now anyone can ride her.  She has her moments of redhead fiery and has struggled with some arthritic stiffness this fall but is still the best mare when it comes to teaching the young'ns.

I took several dogs to the Collie National Specialty show in Tulsa, OK.  Earned a very prestigious third place with Izzy, and her two pups Hank and Lianna, in Brood Bitch.  This class the dam is judged solely on the quality of her pups.  To get a third in that class with pups from my mom's last breeding before she passed away was better than any Best in Shows!

... and my family took a week long vacation to Pictured Rocks, Michigan.

Unfortunately we are still living the little house in the city.

I've moved my mares to a great place and we're all happy at the moment.  I really love the boarding facility.

One of my goals for 2012 was to breed Rosie.  Due to economic realities we are pushing that off until spring of 2013, for a 2014 foal.  Seems so far away but it really isn't..

So instead of getting ready for a foal this summer I am going to show Rosie at least twice and enjoy a lot of riding on both the mares.  Goal is to get out of the Intro classes and into Training level.

We have one litter of Collies planned and the breeding paid for.  So with luck the first litter in three years will be born around the end of June.  This is a much anticipated litter by a lot of people in the Collie world.

Continue to work on the little house in the city and save save save every $ possible for that little house in the country.

  3. Good for you. Keep the faith on that house in the country. We got our dream here in New Mexico so I know it's possible. At our age, our goal is to wake up tomorrow feeling good enough to work with our horses. I can remember my Dad saying that each day he would read the obituary notices. If his name wasn't listed then it was going to be a good day.
