I have not been in a show ring since I was 17 yrs old.. umm.. something like 20+ years. I've NEVER competed in Dressage. I was a Western Pleasure and Horsemanship kinda girl.
I was still kinda on the fence about it until my ride on Rosie this past weekend. As soon as all my pieces fit, she went naturally round, and the more I sat back on my seat bones the more forward she went. Tighten my core and seat muscles and she stops. Light squeeze of the legs she moves forward, turn my body the direction I want to to turn and she turns. No fighting, no arguing, no talking back like Bonnie gives me.
So... this evening I've decided that I am going to compete again. This time in Dressage. I've got a long way to go, but I'm going to pick a show in late fall that has level 1 walk/trot and start with that.

ReplyDeleteI'll never compete. I did one show when i was working for that lady by Mayville with the Arabs and hated it so much! Then I worked livery for driving shows at my job with Mrs. Kennedy and her Connemara's and discovered I still hated it. lol. I would love to see Sparrow in the show ring doing in hand trail and jumping or maybe even driving but I will never do it.
I completely understand. I completely HATE the politics, but this time I'm not going to "win" something. I'm going with the attitude of no matter what some person judges our ability at, as long as it was the best we can do I'll be satisfied.

ReplyDeleteIt sounds like the decision has been made for you -- if the horse is that responsive and a "natural" for it, and you've been thinking about going back into showing, it looks like this was meant to be. Dressage is really elegant and I believe challenging, but with your experience I am sure you can do it! Looking forward to having you in the blog-world with me!

ReplyDeleteI agree there is just something about Rosie that excites me... we just fit you know. Don't get me wrong, I love Bonnie to pieces, but we always struggle against each other when doing something besides trail riding. My trainer friend says its because we are both alpha mares LOL!

I love the fact that you are learning and maybe going to show...that is my desire...yet, for unfortunate reasons, am without an arena to practice...but have some hope to trailer out and walk to a nearby one soon maybe.

HI Kacy and welcome! I thought SuperSize was fitting.... I'v always had 'normal' sized horses, maybe even smallish as I'm a whole 5ft 3 if I stand up really really straight and stretch LOL. Bonnie is 14.9 HH - then when looking for another horse I decided to go "draft" ... Hence "A Whole Lotta Rosie"..
