Hiking Clifty Falls State Park

This past Saturday I begged my ever suffering husband to go hiking with me. I've never hiked this park and don't like to hike new area's alone.

Clifty Falls has varied rated trails and we choose a 1.75 mile moderately rugged trail that looped up to the top of the upper fall.  This place is gorgeous and I'll be going back often.

I LOVE hiking and take Chase every time.  When I got him two summers ago he was just 18 months old and had lived the sheltered life of a show dog.  He didn't even know how to jump a log, or go up and down stairs, let alone stand at the top of a waterfall with water rushing across your toes.    So husband was completely amazed that Chase waited step by step by my side when possible, or behind me when on stairs.  He locks his shoulders and allows me use him as brace to climb up or down steep embankments.  When asked to "walk on" he moves about 3 steps in front of me and picks the "safe" path.  Very rarely does he go the end of leash.

Toward the end of the trail Chase almost stepped on this guy... Any one know what he is besides cute?

When we left the park we decided to investigate the area and found this really cool covered bridge.

And in front of the bridge was this post...

Yes.. that marks an Underground Railroad route!  How cool is that!

  6. I'm still trying to figure out what "ever suffering" means.... :P

I actually enjoyed the hike. Jen stayed on the trails and didn't get within 18" of the edge of the falls. ;) I'm looking forward to doing it again.
